Strawberry Smoothie
I have been making a lot of smoothies lately. They seem to make a nice afternoon pick-me-up. It all started when we were getting an every-other-weekly box of fruit from Organics to You in the late summer and through the fall. We have since stopped the delivery just because I don't like to feel forced to eat so much fruit just because it keeps showing up. Anyway, we kept the smoothie habit.
Recently I made a strawberry smoothie.
Step 1: Six months ago when the ground was warming and the strawberries were ripe, go out and pick as many as you can stand. Clean them, dry them lay them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them until they are solid, then put them in a bag in the freezer.
Step 2: Wait six months until the taste of strawberries is a lingering memory as if in a dream.
Step 3: Pull some out of the freezer and rinse them with a enough warm tap water to cover until you have taken the chill off. Then puree them with some good strawberry ice cream, and plain yogurt. Add some orange juice until is is the consistency you like. And a couple scoops of vanilla or strawberry protein powder. Blend until the protein powder is well incorporated, but not so long that it whips into a foam.
Step 4: Serve it up, and enjoy the re-presentation of summer.
